Review: Panera Bread Co.-Newport, RI (18 of 25)
REVIEW- PANERA BREAD CO._NEWPORT,RI (18 out of 25)
Well we did it... we survived St.Patty's Day and all that goes along with celebrating that day and we needed a bite to eat around 8pm. Instead of paying 40 or 50 dollars to get in so we could eat something we headed for the fast food cafe "Panera Bread Co." which has locations across the country and is growing as we speak.
We entered the Newport,RI location around 8pm and were greeted by "what can I get you two..." perhaps seeing that we had thoroughly enjoyed the days events or just from lack of a welcoming tone... we like cattle ushered forward and placed our order. I ordered the Frontega Chicken Panini a hot pressed sandwich that features none the less Frontega cheese, a slightly aged and spicy cheese the compliments chicken well. My friend ordered the Crispani pizza that was to be topped with Pepperoni.
Panera's interiors offer a warm mix of earth tone colors along with a handsome counter filled with baked treats. The smells that fill the air make you hungry even if not...and definite step up from standard fast food fare.
My panini arrived in a few moments after ordering while my friend waited and waited and waited. My sandwich included chips and a pickle. Pickle was soggy, very limp to say the least and was quite salty. Usually the sign of being mass produced and stuck in a vat of salt water for about 19832 years.
The panini itself was ok... just ok. The taste was as good as expected but the amount or lack thereof of chicken was mind boggling. Perhaps the meat of 1 wing cut different ways. In any case I ATE IT!
We asked about the pizza and was told that there were issues with the oven...with that we were left waiting... finally having been done for about 10 mins my friend's crispani arrived with an apology and an offer of a free pastry for waiting. Nice touch... the crispani was hot, thin crust and a decent sauce for a mass produced pizza. Crispy and good, not pepes but good enough for a nice alternative. My friend was happy...even after the wait.
Like most fast food places families and party revelers filled the room. We opted not for the freebie at the end but left with a smile as our craving was filled.
With this in mind I have the following review:
