Segwaying Across a Shoreline Town

Guilford with its handsome town green topped by an early 19th century congregational church, surrounded by shoppes, boutiques and more in 17th-19th century buildings is one of those towns that at first needs to be explored by foot around the green. The second time back to wander the side streets which tell of history and the past as well as the well to-do present is equally as exciting as the first time walking the historic green.

I have been to Guilford, the home of N.Y.Rangers (now retired) Stanley Cup Champion goalie Mike Richter and family is one of those quaint New England towns that if one does not know where it is... one will drive right past it on the ever busy Interstate 95. However those lucky enough to take the Guilford Exit will be greeted by one of America's great greens and great small towns. Having driven, walked and biked through much of Guilford when I first walked the town I wondered.."wow what would this place look like on bike...?". Well I tried that and enjoyed it but still being on 2 wheels and watching out for traffic (if and when) one still kind of misses the essence of an area, albeit one gains more from biking than driving and it is healthier! But now with the establishment of the Segway business via R.e.a.d Amusements in Guilford which offers tours of Guilford one of any age can enjoy Guilford in a most relaxing way... on Segway.

The Segway publicy marketed since 2001 by Dean Kamen is used by police and now tourists in more than 30 cities and towns across America and they are fun to use! I first tried one in St.Petersburg, Florida and look forward to trying one again and again. The Segway can essentially replace the "moped" or "the scourge of summer residents" in a quiet, environmentally friendly manner as these machines run on re-chargeable Lithium Batteries and have lower maintenance costs than mopeds, cars or those pesky Golf Carts!

The Segway in Guilford can rented from R.e.a.d for a start up fee of 65.00 which includes a trainings session and 1 hour guided tour. More info can be found at www.segwaytoursandrentals.com
