How about Newport, Rhode Island? Only a tank away or a day trip away from most major population centers in New England Newport offers enough for the entire family and enough to feel like you are really on a nice relaxing vacation. Remember... although gas is expensive... burn out from your job, the office and the daily routine costs more! Take that vacation... why not Newport and other local tourist spots worth visiting?

My suggestion:

When crossing the Jamestown Bridge drive into Newport through the old cemetery and find parking before the major intersection at America's Cup Avenue. There is plenty of parking available at the tourist information office that is inexpensive or along the waterfront just behind the visitors center in the heart of the Colonial neighborhood. Walk to all parts of Newport from here...and enjoy your stay.

Hotels and rooms can be easily rented from the visitor information center. There are displays throughout the center with codes and numbers for each establishment. Local innkeepers are friendly and eager to show you where 2 go and what 2 do!
