What 2 Do This Summer? Mystic,CT Wants Your Attention
A sampling of whats available shows that many of the discounts of course are or appear to be somewhat tied to "availability" or "call for information" or alreay in place campaigns. Ok you get a few bucks off this and that, a t shirt and free soda at each location and the initiative is a decent one but this all reminds me those "ticket booths with special offers" at South of the Border or in Orlando. Essentially many of the hotels offer 10-20% off which covers the tax. I would like to see and will research the year on year price changes/differences from 2006-2007 and 2008 for accommodations in the Mystic Area. 10-20% off on restaurants.. ok this covers your tax and a small part of the tip which by the way is now suggested at nearly 20% even for sometimes horrible service.
Ok I sound negative... I do applaud the chamber and other groups for organizing this but as the old saying goes..."never trust the he who has no risk himself".
Mystic is a great summer spot and once they get the Central Hall Block rebuilt (8 years now and counting) it will continue to be and be a better one each year as the downtown area slowly expands east, north and west. The Seaport has some basic new attractions and noticed a small spike in attendance last year. Lets see what the response is and in the end one might just say..."were those few bucks enough to bring in that many more "new faces" to Mystic? With more staycations planne this year maybe this will be enough for someone to stay perhaps a night longer or to grab that sandwich before driving back to New York or Pennsylvania instead of finding it off 95 somewhere.
